The Key To The Heart.
The heart is the doorway to the soul. It’s where you find your passion and purpose in life. It’s where you experience unconditional love and true trust.
The key to the heart is acceptance. Accepting all parts of you, the light and joyful sides as well as the darker sides that we often want to push away. Acceptance opens you up to being vulnerable and making mistakes and having this be okay. Maybe you’ve heard of Brené Brown’s work on vulnerability and shame? She talks about the gremlins in our mind that want to keep us from loving ourselves deeply. This acceptance piece helps to keep those gremlins at bay.
Accepting yourself creates harmony in your outer and inner worlds.
To accept all parts of ourselves more easily, we must give ourselves permission. The reason this is so powerful is because roughly five percent of our brain is used in conscious thought while the other 95 percent is unconscious. It’s the unconscious level that we’re trying to access through this permission exercise.
On a daily basis, I encourage you to say:
- I give myself permission to connect deeply with my heart.
- I give myself permission to truly accept myself.
The vibration of these sayings will help allay fears, conscious or unconscious, about opening to connecting with and accepting yourself on a deeper level. When we’re fearful, our body contracts and is not able to be receptive to the love that is generated when we truly connect with and accept ourselves.
Here’s an exercise that invites you to learn more about your relationship with yourself, which opens up the pathway to connect with and accept yourself on a deeper level.
In your journal or another creative manner (e.g., drawing, creating a vision board or collage, painting), answer the following questions.
- What would it mean if you had a deep connection with your heart?*
- What would it look like if you had a deep connection with your heart?*
- What would it mean if you had a deep connection with yourself?
- What would it look like if you had a deep connection with yourself?
- What would it mean if you truly accepted yourself?
- What would it look like if you truly accepted yourself?
*This is the “metaphorical heart,” the doorway to the soul, where you tap into your passion and purpose in life, unconditional love and true trust.
After answering the questions above, write about your experience with this exercise. What bodily sensations did you experience while completing this exercise? What emotions arose as you completed this exercise? Paying attention to the bodily sensations and emotions that arise while completing the exercise can help you to see where you might be resisting these concepts. You can then tap into the emotions and/or areas of your body to see what might be there (e.g., grief, fear) and ready for you to let go of.
Here’s a helpful affirmation for this journey of connecting with and accepting yourself more deeply.
- I am entirely acceptable exactly how I am, right here, right now.
I encourage you to allow a deepening of your own personal connection by holding space for deep acceptance. When you do this, resistance melts away, your nervous system calms down and your physical body relaxes. This allows you to be more present in your heart, which opens up doors to beautiful things.
If you find that you’d like support on your journey, I am here to help hold space and guide you as you continue on your path. To schedule a session visit https://nancymae.com/.
