Everything is energy. Your physical body, thoughts, and even the electronics you use are made of energy. Energy Medicine is working with energy in such a way as to affect change. When we say that everything is energy, this encompasses physical, emotional, mental, and even spiritual things. From my perspective, when it comes to fertility these four aspects are equally important.
Our physical body is intricately involved in our fertility journey. This is a given. It takes an egg and sperm uniting to create an embryo. What many people don’t realize on the physical body front is that the body is an alive and energetic being. Our physical body is affected by the thoughts we think, what we say to and about our body, how we feel about our body, and how we view our body in terms of it being a temporary vessel for our soul’s journey.
Let’s take the reproductive system as an example. Most people don’t pay much attention to their reproductive system until something is wrong. Perhaps it’s painful periods, the inability to fall pregnant easily, or a cyst in the reproductive system, to name a few possible scenarios.
When these things happen, we want to fix them without understanding the underlying reason for these ailments. When something is off in our body, there is a deeper reason that energy medicine helps us realize. There’s an energetic component underneath all things. When we do pay attention to our reproductive system, it’s often to shame it or shut it down. Many of us have spent much of our lives trying not to fall pregnant or feel put off when our menses arrive. We see these messages as an inconvenience.
Think about it this way. When someone ignores you, how does it feel? Not so good. When someone says something not so nice to you, how does that feel? Again, not so good. When someone says something kind and loving, that feels good. This goes for your physical body as well.
Since your physical body is energy, it’s affected by your thoughts, feelings, and actions. I encourage you to have a daily practice of praising your physical body. Perhaps you say three things you’re grateful for each day that pertain to your physical body. The more love and appreciation you send your body, the better. When you treat your physical body like a best friend, the energy shifts.
Our emotions are energy as well. Have you ever walked into a room and sensed that someone was angry? Or perhaps you’ve walked into a room and knew something positive had happened. This is because of the energy.
Energy is measured by vibrational frequency, which is the number of vibrations per second emitted by a thing or experience. In this case, the vibration of certain emotions is measured. Emotions with higher vibrations are measured more positively, while emotions with lower vibrations are where we tend to get “stuck” from an energy medicine perspective.
One example of measuring the energy of emotions comes from Abraham Hicks. Their Emotional Guidance Scale shows us which emotions have the highest vibrations and which have the lowest. According to this scale, the highest vibration is that of love and joy and the lowest is that of fear.
Which camp do you spend most of your emotional energy in – Love and Joy or Fear?
I find that most clients I work with are in the fear camp — fear of not getting pregnant, fear of having a miscarriage, fear of not doing things right, fear of not being or doing enough. From an energy medicine perspective, this creates blocks. When we are in fear, we tend to hold our breath and tense our body. Think about it from your future child’s perspective. Would you rather enter a womb that is filled with love and joy, or a womb filled with fear? I’d personally prefer the womb filled with love and joy!
We’ve already talked about fear being a low vibration and an emotion that can create energetic blocks. When it comes to our mental faculties, I feel there is much we can do to help shift out of the fear mode. One eye-opening exercise is to notice your thoughts for a day. You’ll notice you have a lot of repetitive thoughts, and that most of these thoughts are negative. In fact, research has shown that the average person has roughly 70,000 thoughts per day and roughly 80% of these are negative. That’s a lot of low-vibration thoughts!
Imagine what you could do from an energy medicine perspective – even if you changed just 10% of these thoughts? I encourage you to start looking for what’s going right, instead of focusing on what’s wrong. There’s always something going right. Wherever you focus your attention is where the energy flows. Might as well bring your attention to positive thoughts as often as possible.
When it comes to our spiritual self, I find that many of the clients I work with have not delved into the energy medicine arena much, if at all. Everything is energy, including our spiritual life. If we aren’t spending quality time with our spiritual selves, this affects our energy. From my perspective, we each have a soul that is eternal. Your future child has a soul, too. If we choose to acknowledge this spiritual side of ourselves, it’s a gift to our future child.
To me, spirituality is about turning inward to find answers — perhaps it’s quiet contemplation, meditation, or listening to your intuition.
I encourage you to start a conversation with your future child even before conception. This is all about energy. You and your future child are energy. Perhaps you write a letter to your future child letting them know what you’d love to show them and teach them when they are here and where you’d like to travel with them. This is a beautiful way to send loving and joyful energy their way.
Every part of your fertility journey is energy. If you understand and choose the energetic road of love and joy, it’s a huge gift for you and your future child.
